About Cranio Sacral therapy
Cranio Sacral Therapy is an energy-based therapy where the therapist uses light contact on specific parts of the body, not just the cranium, spine and sacrum. There is no physical manipulation of bones or tissues and the body is allowed to readjust at its own pace. The therapist applies specific hands-on techniques to the horse’s body to release restrictions in its musculoskeletal system and fascia (a web like tissue which is present throughout the whole body and which acts like a protective cling film around tendons, joints and ligaments).
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, non-manipulative but effective therapy; it encourages the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms.
Equine CranioSacral Therapy can help treat many conditions, both chronic and acute, including:
- Facial nerve paralysis
- Hock or stifle issues
- Lumbar or sacroiliac problems
- Head shaking
- Head injuries and traumas
- Lameness
- TMJ/TMD (tempromandibular joint disfunction)
- Blocked tear ducts
- Castration
- Cribbing
- Unexplained behaviour – bucking, refusing, rearing, shying, spookiness
- Difficulty in making transitions, flat in work
- Difficulty with breathing
- Headaches
- Grinding teeth or difficulty chewing food
Besides this therapy it is important to look at the total management of the horse`s situation. With management I mean stabling, training, hoof care, dental treatment, the use of a saddle, bit and very important, feeding!

Why Cranio sacral therapy
During the time I have had Habibi I ran into several health problems with him. He had skin issues, would walk lame now and then, hated the saddle, or have sensitive muscles. I have had several therapist come over but because of the fact that Habibi did not trust other people he would not let them treat him.
So I then decided to dig into the different kinds of therapies and what options there were to become a therapist.
My feeling and interest was straight away Cranio Sacral therapy. The reason why is that there is no manipulation involved ( which is positive for Habibi ) and it encourages the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms.
Ever since I apply this treatment to horses It has opened my eyes and showed me how special and amazing horses are. They are all individuals with their own story, opinion and feelings.
My goal is to listen to the horses and give them the treatment they ask for.
That way I can help them out to feel better and feel Heard.
